Half of Europe’s waters are not doing well, Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management said in a statement Tuesday.
Norwegian aquatic researcher Ann Lyche Solheim is one of the main speakers at this week’s Marine and Water Forum 2013 in Gothenburg hosted by the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, SwAM.
She has played a key role the work surrounding the EU’s Water Framework Directive.
“Currently, 55 percent of Europe’s lakes, rivers, and coastal waters are in poor ecological condition, including eutrophication that contributes algal blooms in lakes and coastal waters, and migration obstacles that negatively affect fish stocks and other aquatic life”, says Solheim.
